RESUMEN

The plasmalemma Na+/H+ antiporter Salt Overly Sensitive 1 (SOS1) is responsible for the efflux of Na+ from the cytoplasm, an important determinant of salt resistance in plants. In this study, an ortholog of SOS1, referred to as NsSOS1, was cloned from Nitraria sibirica, a typical halophyte that grows in deserts and saline-alkaline land, and its expression and function in regulating the salt tolerance of forest trees were evaluated. The expression level of NsSOS1 was higher in leaves than in roots and stems of N. sibirica, and its expression was upregulated under salt stress. Histochemical staining showed that ß-glucuronidase (GUS) driven by the NsSOS1 promoter was strongly induced by abiotic stresses and phytohormones including salt, drought, low temperature, gibberellin, and methyl jasmonate, suggesting that NsSOS1 is involved in the regulation of multiple signaling pathways. Transgenic 84 K poplar (Populus alba × P. glandulosa) overexpressing NsSOS1 showed improvements in survival rate, root biomass, plant height, relative water levels, chlorophyll and proline levels, and antioxidant enzyme activities versus non-transgenic poplar (NT) under salt stress. Transgenic poplars accumulated less Na+ and more K+ in roots, stems, and leaves, which had a lower Na+/K+ ratio compared to NT under salt stress. These results indicate that NsSOS1-mediated Na+ efflux confers salt tolerance to transgenic poplars, which show more efficient photosynthesis, better scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and improved osmotic adjustment under salt stress. Transcriptome analysis of transgenic poplars confirmed that NsSOS1 not only mediates Na+ efflux but is also involved in the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways. The results provide insight into the regulatory mechanisms of NsSOS1 and suggest that it could be used to improve the salt tolerance of forest trees.

RESUMEN

Nitraria sibirica Pall is a halophytic shrub growing in desert steppe zones. It exhibits extraordinary adaptability to saline-alkali soil, drought, and sand burial. In this study, the high-affinity K+ transporter NsHKT1 was identified and found to play a key role in salt tolerance in N. sibirica. NsHKT1 was used to improve salt tolerance in a poplar hybrid. The expression characteristics of NsHKT1 were analyzed by transforming Arabidopsis and poplar with the ß-glucuronidase (GUS) gene driven by the NsHKT1 promoter. The results showed that NsHKT1 expression was induced by various abiotic stresses and phytohormones. GUS expression was also detected in the reproductive organs of transgenic Arabidopsis, indicating its function in regulating plant reproductive growth. Transgenic 84 K poplar plants overexpressing NsHKT1 exhibited less damage, higher antioxidant capacity, higher chlorophyll and proline levels, and lower malondialdehyde content compared with non-transgenic plants under salt stress. These results are consistent with the salt tolerance results for transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing NsHKT1, indicating that NsHKT1 plays a key role in salt tolerance in herbaceous and ligneous plants. Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry showed a significantly lower leaf Na+ content in transgenic poplar than in the non-transgenic line, revealing that NsHKT1, as a member of HKT family subclass 1, was highly selective to Na+ and prevented shoot Na+ accumulation. Transcriptome analysis indicated that differentially expressed genes in transgenic poplars under salt stress were associated mainly with the isoflavonoid, cutin, suberine, wax, anthocyanin, flavonoid, and cyanoamino biosynthesis pathways, as well as the MAPK signaling pathway, indicating that NsHKT1 not only regulates ion homeostasis but also influences secondary metabolism and signal transaction in transgenic plants.

RESUMEN

Incredibly active electrocatalysts comprising earth-abundant materials that operate as effectively as noble metal catalysts are essential for the sustainable generation of hydrogen through water splitting. However, the vast majority of active catalysts are produced via complicated synthetic processes, making scale-up considerably tricky. In this work, a facile strategy is developed to synthesize superhydrophilic Ni/CeOx nanoparticles (NPs) integrated into porous carbon (Ni/CeOx@C) by a simple two-step synthesis strategy as efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts in 1.0 M KOH. Benefiting from the electron transport induced by the heterogeneous interface between Ni and CeOx NPs and the superhydrophilic structure of the catalyst, the resultant Ni2Ce1@C/500 catalysts exhibit a low overpotential of 26 and 184 mV at a current density of 10 and 300 mA cm-2, respectively, for HER with a small Tafel slope of 62.03 mV dec-1 and robust durability over 300 h, and its overpotential at a high current density is much better than the benchmark commercial Pt/C. Results revealed that the electronic rearrangement between Ni and CeOx integrated into porous carbon could effectively regulate the local conductivity and charge density. In addition, the oxygen vacancies and Ni/CeOx heterointerface promote water adsorption and hydrogen intermediate dissociation into H2 molecules, which ultimately accelerate the HER reaction kinetics. Notably, the electrochemical results demonstrate that structural optimization by regulating synthesis temperature and metal concentration could improve the surface features contributing to high electrical conductivity and increase the number of electrochemically active sites on the Ni/CeOx@C heterointerface, high crystal purity, and better electrical conductivity, resulting in its exceptional electrocatalytic performance toward the HER. These results indicated that the Ni/CeOx@C electrocatalyst has the potential for practical water-splitting applications because of its controlled production strategy and outstanding Pt-like HER performance.

RESUMEN

Job burnout is an occupational hazard induced by prolonged exposure to excessive work-related stress -a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. Knowledge jobs involve many health-promoting features, but stress and burnout may be caused by the rapid increase in the knowledge intensity of work, new job demands, and emerging new professional subcultures emphasizing the excessive commitment to work. Although there are studies on job burnout and predictors among nurses worldwide, evidence specific to Chinese nurses is lacking. The purpose of this review is to synthesize current research on predictors related to burnout affecting Chinese nurses. We searched the Chinese databases including National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and Chinese Biological Medical Database (CBM); and international databases including Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science published up to 30th August 2022. The 125 studies identified assessed a range of predictors of job burnout. The results showed good working relationships and internally controlled individuals were found to be predictive of job burnout. Moreover, numerous predictors produced contradictory data. There are still challenges with how to systematically operationalize such a complicated phenomenon to effectively prevent or reduce job burnout.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Patients' lack of correct understanding of cardiovascular disease and interventional therapy is often accompanied by varying degrees of fear, depression and anxiety. Negative emotion will affect the hemodynamic fluctuation of patients undergoing interventional surgery, which is not conducive to the smooth and safe operation of interventional surgery. Therefore, it is very important to implement effective nursing intervention in the operating room. AIM: To explore the intervention effect of motivational psychological nursing combined with programmed nursing on compliance and bad mood of patients in interventional operating room. METHODS: A total of 98 patients in the interventional operating room of our hospital from October 2019 to March 2021 were randomly divided into study group (n = 49) and control group (n = 49). The control group took routine nursing. However, the study group took motivational psychological nursing combined with procedural nursing on the basis of the control group. Statistics were made on rehabilitation compliance, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule of bad mood, Simplified Coping Styles Questionnaire score of coping style and satisfaction of intervention between the two groups before and after intervention. RESULTS: The rehabilitation compliance of the study group (95.92%) was higher than that of the control group (81.63%) (P < 0.05). After intervention, the scores of upset, fear, irritability, tension and fear in the study group were respectively, which were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After intervention, the score of positive coping in the study group was higher than that in the control group. However, the score of negative coping in the study group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The intervention satisfaction of the study group (93.88%) was higher than that of the control group (79.59%) (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The intervention of motivational psychological nursing combined with procedural nursing can improve the rehabilitation compliance, and alleviate the bad mood. In addition, it can change their coping style to the disease, and the patients are more satisfied with the nursing work.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Parental vaccine-hesitancy can lead to delays or refusal to vaccinate children despite the availability of vaccines. This is a population-based, cross-sectional study investigating whether parents in China are hesitant to vaccinate their children with a COVID-19 vaccine booster. METHODS: Parents in Taizhou, China, responded to a self-reported online questionnaire on their hesitancy to vaccinate their children with a COVID-19 vaccine booster. Of the 1252 parents who were invited to answer the structured questionnaire, 514 (41.1%) samples had valid data for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 41.8% of participants were hesitant to give their children a COVID-19 vaccine booster. After adjusting for confounders, parental gender (female vs. male parent, OR=0.56 95% CI: 0.32-0.87), parental opinion (yes vs. no, OR=0.17, 95% CI: 0.09-0.30), parental attitudes (yes vs. no, OR=0.28, 95% CI: 0.16-0.50), the presence of people around them who are generally hesitant to receive COVID-19 booster vaccines for children (yes vs. no, OR=0.14, 95%CI: 0.08-0.23), the individual hesitancy of people around them to administer booster COVID-19 vaccines to children (yes vs. no, OR=0.02, 95%CI: 0.02-0.22), and parents' hesitancy to receive a booster vaccine for their children showed significant correlation. The disparity of factors related to booster vaccine-hesitancy for children between fathers and mothers was also found. CONCLUSIONS: We found that a moderate proportion of parents reported that they were hesitant to give their children a COVID-19 vaccine booster. The results suggest that an in-depth, dynamic assessment and further health education planning are necessary to reduce Chinese parents' hesitancy to vaccinate their children.

RESUMEN

Background: High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) have been shown to be effective in the treatment of malignant tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma. In recent years, HIFU combined with TACE has been frequently reported, but researchers have not yet reached a uniform conclusion on the efficacy and safety of this treatment modality. Methods: The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and Embase databases were searched using the terms "randomized controlled trial (RCT)", "liver cancer", "transarterial chemoembolization", "TACE", "high intensity focused ultrasound", "HIFU", "HIFU combined with TACE", and "efficacy analysis". Studies were included in accordance with the PICOS principle, and risk of bias was assessed in randomized controlled trials in accordance with the Cochrane Manual for Systematic Evaluation of Interventions. Rev Man 5.3 and Stata 13 were employed for meta-analysis. Results: Six randomized controlled trials with a total sample size of 488 were included in this study. Of these studies, 5 described a random allocation (RA) method, 4 described allocation sequence concealment, and 4 used a blind method for the allocation of study subjects. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the 1-year [odds ratio (OR) =3.13, 95% CI: 1.92, 5.11, P<0.00001], 2-year (OR =3.38, 95% CI: 1.71, 6.66, P=0.0004), and 5-year (OR =2.15, 95% CI: 1.02, 4.55, P=0.04) survival rates (SRs) of patients treated with HIFU + TACE were significantly better than those of patients treated with TACE alone. The total effective rate (TER) of patients treated with HIFU + TACE (OR =3.61, 95% CI: 2.14, 6.08, P<0.00001) was significantly better than that of patients treated with TACE alone. Compared with TACE alone, HIFU combined with TACE significantly reduced the incidence of postoperative adverse reactions (OR= 0.57, 95% CI: 0.34, 9.96, P=0.03). Discussion: Meta-analysis was adopted in this study, and it was found that compared with TACE alone, HIFU combined with TACE in the treatment of LC had better efficacy, higher prognosis and survival rate, and lower incidence of adverse reactions. However, due to the limited sample size of the study, there was some risk of bias in the findings.

RESUMEN

Intracellular Ca2+ plays an essential role in plant cellular sensing of various environmental stress signals by modulating the activity of Ca2+-binding proteins. Leymus chinensis is a dominant forage grass widely distributed in the Eurasian Steppe that is well adapted to drought and salty soils common in the region. Through transcript profiling of L. chinensis roots, we identified a transcript predicted to encode histidine-rich calcium-binding protein (HRC), a protein recently characterized in wheat. L. chinensis HRC (LcH RC) localized in the nucleus, as demonstrated using a transient gene expression method that we developed for this species. Different regions of LcHRC showed affinity for either Ca2+ or Zn2+, but not Mg2+ and Mn2+. Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings heterologously overexpressing LcHRC showed greater sensitivity to abscisic acid (ABA), along with decreased expression of some ABA-induced marker genes, but no increase in ABA content. Screening a Arabidopsis cDNA yeast library identified a Tudor/PWWP/MBT-domain-containing protein (AtPWWP3) that interacts with LcHRC. AtPWWP3 also localized in the nucleus and is predicted to mediate gene expression by modifying histone deacetylation. Based on these results, we propose a functional model of LcHRC action.

RESUMEN

Stress-adapted wild plants are natural sources of novel genes for molecular breeding. Here, we conducted a transcriptional analysis of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica Litv, an evergreen pine in northeastern China, to identify a novel CALMODULIN-LIKE protein-encoding gene, PsCML1, no significant homologs found in other plant species. PsCML1 encodes a protein predicted to have a single trans-membrane domain at its N-terminal. Four EF-hand motifs (calcium [Ca]-binding structures) are located at its C-terminal and showed Ca2+-specific affinity in isothermal titration calorimetric analysis. Transient expression of PsCML1 in Nicotiana benthamiana showed that the PsCML1 localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Heterologous expression of PsCML1 in Arabidopsis significantly promoted seedling growth, and increased resistance to stress from NaCl and Ca2+ deficiency. The roots of the transgenic seedlings had higher contents of cellulose and pectin, but less hemicellulose than those of the wild type (WT). The biosynthesis of cell wall components is linked with protein glycosylation in the ER and reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis. No significant difference was found in the extent of protein glycosylation between the transgenic and WT plants. However, the transgenic roots had higher steady-state levels of ROS, NADPH oxidase activity, and endo-membrane dynamics than those of the WT. A working model was proposed to delineate the interaction among Ca2+, ROS homeostasis, and cell wall loosening-dependent cell division.

RESUMEN

Ecological civilization is to normalize human development behaviors to harmonize the relationships between social and ecological development and eco-environment protection. In this paper, a comparative analysis was made on the ecological demonstration activities of ecological demonstration areas led by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, exemplar cities of national environmental protection, and ecological provinces, cities, and counties. It was considered that all the ecological demonstration activities had the problems of lacking pertinence of construction goals, disordered construction subjects, inefficient construction processes, and lacking continuous incentive mechanisms of assessment. In the meantime, through the analysis of the connotations of eco-civilization, the relationships between eco-civilization and eco-demonstration constructions were approached, and the eco-civilization construction mode was put forward in terms of construction goal, construction subject, and construction processes and assessment. The construction mode included the construction goal based on regional characteristics; the synergistic cooperation of construction subjects, the expanding ways of public participation, and the establishment of evaluation system for comprehensively measuring the 'actions and results'.

RESUMEN

Ecological planning is one of the most important tools in realizing city's sustainable development. The ecological planning in China was started in the 1980s, and on the basis of assimilating the existing theoretical and practical experiences from western countries, basically formed a theoretical system in accordance with the Chinese characteristics and acquired a series of practical results. This paper reviewed the research and development processes of China' s ecological planning. It is considered that the study of our ecological planning was derived from the geographical principles of land resources ecological utilization, the ecological principles of complex ecological system theory, and the combination of these two principles. The ecological planning has experienced three research stages, i. e., single-disciplinary exploration, multi-disciplinary and multi-perspective study (including landscape ecology, ecology and urban planning), and interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration research. The ecological planning and the related conceptions, primary principles, main academic points, and representatives at each research stage were summarized, and through the discrimination of the basic conceptions of ecological planning and other related plans, it was pointed out that ecological planning is an general conception which includes land ecological planning, urban ecological planning, and eco-city planning, and the principles and theories of ecological planning should be integrated into, led and restricted the present planning system to promote the city's and regional sustainable development.
